Nest - Esther Ehrlich

Completely engrossed; compelling story of an eleven year old girl nicknamed Chirp and her Jewish family living in Cape Cod.  She loves to entertain her mother along with her sister Rachel by dancing with twists and leaps and shimmies while singing to popular songs of the time.  Close knit loving family, dad a psychiatrist and mom a dancer.  This family will be tested beyond belief and he hard challenges will either break this family or accept it.  Chirp befriends someone her age named Joey.  Joey with his own family issues mixed with Chirp's made this story so enthralling.  Their friendship is tested and with each others help they endure anything, why you ask?  You have to read the story to grasp this emotional story.  Chirp taught me a thing or two about birds and their habitats, her love for them and her keen sense of them.  The author made me feel everything Chirp saw and experienced in Cape Cod.  I felt all the raw emotions, the love and lost and the acceptance.  I truly felt the sadness and the grief but most of all the emptiness.  Joey, Joey such a boy but yet he cuddled Chirp with the protection she needed knowing all too well the ramification he will face.  Naomi "Chirp" Orenstein is the heroine of this story, her bouts of losing herself within herself in order to maintain a sanity.  But whose sanity is tested and whose sanity is lost?  This gripping story tore at my psychic which means this is an excellent read.  I  felt the intense sorrow and pain.  The part that got me the most when Chirp and Joey made it to the Swan Boat ride, that did it for me.  I could go on and on and if I do my review will turn into a novel, don't you thing?  Plus no spilling the beans here.  There's so much more to this story I highly recommend this novel, one of the best this year.  Congratulations Ms. Esther Ehrlich!!!! WONDERFUL...... Free digital download for a review from Netgalley.  Thank you, Darlene Cruz
